Come and build the future of Containers, Amazon Linux, and Open Source organization! Our industry has decided that containers are now the chosen way to package and scale applications. Our customers are making great use of Amazon ECS and Amazon EKS, with over 80% of all cloud-based containers running on AWS. Container-based environments lend themselves to easy scale-out, and customers can run host environments that encompass hundreds or thousands of instances.
Our group is responsible for building software and services that help customers run and scale their containerized applications. We own managed container orchestration services such as Amazon ECS and Amazon EKS, AWS Fargate — a serverless compute engine for containers, Amazon Elastic Container Registry (ECR), and App Mesh — a service mesh that provides application-level networking. The Amazon Linux, Containers, and Open source team is responsible for Bottlerocket and Amazon Linux distributions to ensure our customers have a secure and high-quality environment for their Container and Linux applications.
Bottlerocket is a greenfield opportunity to think big and revolutionize container-optimized host environments. Do you have experience and passion for the Linux Operating System, cloud-based Distributed Systems, and building and developing great teams to deliver in those technical areas? If you answered yes, we want to talk to you!
As a Software Development Manager, you will work with technical leaders to define technical direction, hire and develop the skills of the teams you lead, and own your team’s delivery of the products and programs. You are equally comfortable leading small, focused project teams and making significant direct contributions to the project. You deliver features, through the teams you manage, with minimal direct oversight. You are also adept at recruiting and developing bar-raising talent. The baseline individual for this role will be entirely comfortable with the Linux operating system and understand how to build software in languages such as Go, Rust, Java, and Python in a Linux environment. Experience with Linux package management, understanding of and experience in contributing to open source projects, knowledge of the use, design, and development of Linux operating system internals, including the kernel and hypervisor, is a plus.
If you like helping customers, solving complex problems, working on extensive distributed services, and working with a talented group of people, then we are the team for you. Our team creates the very core of the cloud and is directly responsible for radically changing and improving how people use computers – join us to have fun and make history!
Inclusive Team Culture
Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.
Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives. This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.
Mentorship & Career Growth
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. Our senior members enjoy one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.
Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status.
