About the project
Currently our website accounts for the vast majority of our sales. We would like to move the vast majority of these customers onto our App. This will be no easy task and will require the development of an app to provide something more than the website -likely to be a shorter, easier, more intuitive, more convenient or more secure  way for our customers to interact (particularly to purchase). The project is split into  3 phases:

Phase 1 (essential features & functionality)
1. A basic interfaces with the website, but with the aim of making the interaction more iterative and customer focused in order to test the key business premise for having the app. The customer must be able to access the service in a way that is quicker, easier and more convenient than the website.

2. Essential functions:
a. Two way API (Application Programming Interface) with My Pharmacy website, particularly to patient to :

Phase 2 (essential features & functionality)

1. Produce a better look and feel to the App with the aim of increasing interaction and trust. Essential additional features:
a. Video consulting and ability to upload photos.
b. Prescriber interface – different class of user.
c. Reminders to take medication function.
d. Book a video or other consultation  function.
e. NHS interface to allow order of repeat prescriptions – see other similar apps.

2. Nice to have features:
a. Two way API with

Other more general requirements
1. The programming language used to develop the App must be an industry standard one.
2. The Apps performance must be measurable – downtime, speed etc.
3. Interface – any existing requirements re hardware or software – data base etc?

Other similar apps
By searching for pharmacy in the Appstore it is possible to see a number of pharmacies offering an app which allows the patient to order repeat NHS prescriptions. Pharmacy2u, Lloyds, superdrug and Wells are probably the main ones.  This is only a feature for us in phase 2.

Others such as Boots and Superdrug concentrate on selling non-prescription items (including beauty products). This is an area that is only of secondary interest to us from a business perspective.

There are some apps for online doctors which allow for video consultations. However, most will not combine this with the ability to order the medication at the same time.
