What you’ll be doing
Complement our existing art direction and brand identity with your strategic creative vision
Motivate and inspire our creative team members to make a difference without micromanaging
Create a culture of feedback that is healthy, supportive, and open
Function as team advocate to provide a cohesive vision of Discord’s identity in all audience facing respects
Recruit and foster the career growth of designers, product illustrators, animators, and copywriters
Work with the Product/Engineering and Marketing teams to ensure our creative pursuits reflect their goals and supporting their specific needs
You’ll help define our employer brand and highlight what makes Discord a perfect place to do great design work
You’ll Thrive In This Role If…
5+ years of leading a creative team at an agency or in-house
10+ years experience in design or art direction
Excellent ability to explain your creative vision and inspire others, but also solicit and listen to feedback
You lead with passion and vision, and inspire others to deliver their best work while keeping them engaged and happy
Portfolio that shows your creativity
You are genuinely interested in furthering the careers of the members of your teams
Ability and desire to adapt to the changing landscape of technology
Experience with events/conferences, digital media, apparel, and advertising
Expertise in leading and managing a group of cross-disciplinary teams
Experience motivating and positively engaging staff and management cross functionally in ways that build trust and enthusiasm
Experience hiring and scaling a team of varied skills for growth that’s appropriate to the forecasted needs of the company
Bonus Points
Familiar with 3D and 2D illustrators and the tools they use
Familiar with Animators/Motion Designers and the tools they use
Knowledge with reviewing and managing any outside agencies or freelancers
New York City residents only: Minimum salary of $209,000/year + equity and benefits
